CelluFun Chess Vs Deep Fritz
We had a late entry into the QuicklyBored Guide to Mobile Chess: CelluFun. CelluFun is a company that releases free multiplayer mobile games and their chess game is absolutely superb. In fact, it was so good that we have to completely redo our post about the winning mobile chess game. Step aside Karpov; CelluFun just kicked your butt.
The most important features of CelluFun games are that they are multiplayer and free. If you’d like to be a loner and play chess by yourself, go right ahead. There are 6 levels of difficulty that will provide you with ample chess gaming. On the other hand, if you want to go online and be a socialite, that option is there too.
Free multiplayer gaming is a great concept but I worry about my internet fees when playing on the server. Since I’m being charged per Kb, I could rack up some hefty fees if I play this as much as I want to. On my particular phone, I’m asked if I accept to receive data from CelluFun which only reminds me of the bill that will arrive in the mail.

Going online with CelluFun allows you to play their online server which has an incredibly powerful AI. With an ELO rating of 2560, CelluFun’s rating can only be described as “Grandmaster”. In fact, this was the first chess game we played that was actually able to beat Deep Fritz in several of the matches.
I first knew that Fritz was given a challenge when it was taking an incredibly long time to figure out its moves. This always confused me. Doesn’t a computer do about a trillion computations in a second? How are there this many possibilities for a chess move?
Graphically, this game isn’t too fancy but it has everything you need. The chess pieces are nicely laid out and you can switch views in order to get more statistics about the game. With easily identifiable chess pieces and a properly designed board layout, this game is already ahead of the competition.
So here we have it: the game that has managed to have both a good user interface and a powerful ELO rating. I’d like to thank the people at CelluFun for reading QuicklyBored and bringing their game to my attention. I hope others do the same because there are so many mobile games out there we may forget to include your game in our reviews.
