I-Play exec talks some sense
Plucky mobile bloggers Moconews.net recently sat down for an exclusive interview with I-Play CEO David Gosen, who paints a fairly accurate picture of where the mobile gaming industry is at in 2006.
Gosen’s betting that a portfolio of quality branded, mass market and one-button games is going to help his company win the mobile wars, but recognizes that the market is so saturated right now that not even a first rate mobile game (which are hard to find in the first place) can ensure sales. Gosen goes on to cite jam-packed carrier decks as the biggest problem, stating:
“Given the current fact that the carriers are the major route to the end user, it is not a market that can sustain thousands of games being brought to the consumer. I really believe that less is more in this particular instance. There should be real focus on creating fewer, bigger and better titles.”
Gosen’s solution? Community-based gaming that allows gamers to decide which games are the best instead of the carriers.
