Nokia puts the final nail in the N-Gage’s Coffin
Antii Vasara, Nokia’s VP of corporate strategy, confirmed this week what everyone else already knew: the N-Gage is dead. While support for existing N-Gage and N-Gage QD handsets will continue, Nokia has no plans to develop future versions of the device, due to lackluster sales. Vasara commented:

Halo 2 hero shares his WCG experience
We really enjoyed our interview with Nelson Triana, aka G-Sp0t, world-class pro gamer. We enjoyed it so much, in fact, that we asked Nelson if he’d want to blog his experiences representing Canada at the World Cyber Games in Singapore. He said yes, but only if we gave him a cell phone with Snake on it; we gave him everything but. In part one of an ongoing series, we look into the mind of a professional gamer trapped on a plane for 18 hours with nothing to do but play with his hands.

Tony here, folks! I’ve decided to tackle the 800 lb. Gorilla of mobile gaming: casual games. Join me in my weird and wonderful world as I take a look at Magmic’s Backgammon to try and understand what makes these things so damn popular.

Dutch doctors are sure that they don’t know anything
The Dutch health council announced in a report yesterday that the radiation emitted by mobile phones does not cause cancer. Then they went and said that the results were inconclusive.
The council studied all international reports between 2003 and 2005 on the topic , as well as a 2003 Dutch TNO study into the effects of UMTS radio base stations, before making the announcement. The council said that “For (malignant) brain tumors, there does not, at this stage, appear to be any association,” but also stated that further studies are necessary before they really know for sure.

It just so happens that the QuicklyBored staff lives in the same city as the best Halo player in the world. The next stage in nerds using their iPods as a status symbol
The fine folks at QuicklyBored are saddened by the lackluster amount of DOOM in our mobile lives. While JAMDAT Mobile has finally gotten around to offering its newest release, DOOM RPG, through a Canadian carrier, this turn-based RPG business just doesn’t jive with us. We want the classic, real-time DOOM experience.
Well, thanks to some Swedish Comp Science students, we can finally get down to the one thing QuicklyBored does best: saving the world from legions of hellspawn. Our European friends have found a way to get a full colour version of the original DOOM up and running on their iPod Nanos. iDOOM 1.1 does not feature the original DOOM score, but why would you listen to game music that’s over ten years old when you can slay some zombie ass to DFA 1979?

Is it good for gaming?
There is no doubt that RIM’s latest device, the BlackBerry 8700, is one sexy, sexy beast. With the 8700’s increased power and lush screen, the Waterloo-based company has taken a big step towards making the BB a device for people other than email crazy business execs. After violently mugging one of those email crazy business execs, QuicklyBored was able to get its hands on the 8700 to see how it will change the growing BlackBerry gaming niche.
